FAQs

“I’d like a massage, but without all the ‘fluff’—is that possible?”

Absolutely. Not everyone connects with the more spa-like elements of massage, and that’s completely okay. If you’re looking for a straightforward, effective treatment without extra rituals or overly gentle techniques, we can focus on targeted, therapeutic work that gets to the root of tension.

Whether you're after pain relief, muscle recovery, or just a no-nonsense approach to feeling better, the session can be tailored to your preferences. Clear communication is key—I’ll always check in and adapt the work to suit what you’re looking for.

“What type of massage do you do?”

I specialise in relaxation and therapeutic massage, focusing on easing tension and promoting overall well-being. While I don’t focus on deep tissue work, I can absolutely provide a firmer massage if that’s what you’re looking for—woven into the relaxing Swedish style. This allows for both soothing relaxation and deeper release, tailored to your preferences. When combined with a myofascial release session we can take releasing tension and pain to another level. It is a great combination.

Each session is customized to your needs, helping you feel relaxed, balanced, and rejuvenated.

If you are seeking purely deep tissue work I can recommend a couple of great deep tissue massage therapists in New Plymouth.

“Why are your prices a little lower than the average cost of bodywork?”

Great question. I believe that bodywork, healing, and wellbeing support should be within reach—not something that feels out of budget or out of touch. I keep my overheads low (I am very grateful for a space I use locally where I can do this) and my set up is simple yet warming and inviting so I can offer this work at a more accessible rate. I also offer a sliding scale and payment plans if that feels supportive. No pressure, no judgment—just a genuine commitment to making this care available to more people.

“I would like a massage, but I am little nervous - what can I expect?”

It’s completely natural to feel a little unsure, especially if it’s your first massage. My approach is always gentle, respectful, and guided by your comfort. We’ll start by talking through what to expect, your preferences, and any concerns you may have. There’s no pressure—you’re welcome to ease into the experience at your own pace.

Communication is key. You’re encouraged to speak up at any time during the session—whether it’s about pressure, positioning, or anything that would help you feel more at ease. My goal is to create a safe, nurturing environment where you feel supported, listened to, and completely comfortable.

“I’ve been feeling overwhelmed—can bodywork really help?”

Absolutely. When we’re overwhelmed—mentally, emotionally, or physically—it often shows up in the body as tension, fatigue, or a sense of disconnection. Bodywork offers a gentle way to support your nervous system, release built-up stress, and bring you back into balance.

Through calming touch and mindful presence, bodywork can help quiet the mind, relax the body, and create space for you to simply breathe. Many people find it helps them feel more grounded, clear, and able to cope with life’s demands.

If you’re feeling unsure or tender, that’s okay—everything is done at your pace, with care and compassion guiding each step.

“Why do I feel sore after a massage?”

It’s completely normal to feel some soreness after a massage, especially if areas of tension or deeper layers of muscle were worked on. This can happen because massage stimulates circulation, releases tight tissues, and activates the body’s natural healing processes—including a mild inflammatory response.

This response is your body’s way of repairing and restoring balance. Just like after a workout, your muscles may feel tender as they adjust. The soreness typically fades within a day or two.

Drinking water, resting, and gentle movement can help ease any discomfort. And remember—your comfort always comes first. If anything ever feels too intense during a session, just let me know. We can always tailor the pressure and approach to what feels right for you..
