Myofascial Release & Microfascial Unwinding
Myofascial Release is more than just bodywork—it's a powerful holistic healing practice. By gently releasing tension in the fascia (the body’s connective tissue), this therapy helps reduce pain, restore movement, and support emotional wellbeing. It’s a deeply restorative experience that encourages the body’s natural healing process.
What is Myofascial Release (MFR)?
MFR is a soft tissue therapy that focuses on the fascial system to relieve tension and pain, and restore movement. We will sink into the fascial system with hands on techniques to identify and release tension in the fascia using gentle stretching and manipulation.
What is Fascia?
“Fascia is a connective tissue that permeates the human body, forming a three-dimensional web that surrounds and interpenetrates muscles, bones, organs, and all other structures in the body. Fascia provides support and structure to the body, playing a crucial role in maintaining the body's form and function.
Beyond its structural properties, the fascial system is a dynamic, interactive and critical sensory organ. Fascia plays a pivotal role in coordinating our movements and the functioning of all our body systems and has been referred to as the body’s ‘inner internet’.” - Fascia IQ.
What is MicroFascial Unwinding (MFU)?
With MFU we use a gentler approach in working with the fascial system which creates a more relaxed form of bodywork. We use a series of gentle holds to stimulate the fascia and our body consciousness to facilitate healing and interoception (sensing into our internal state). These gentle holds can help clients experience a release both physically and mentally.
With each session we will either use a combination of both MFR and MFU or focus on one modality, depending on your needs and requirements.
You can also book a combination of Massage and MFR/MFU.
Benefits of Myofascial Release.
1. Reduces Chronic Pain, Migraines and Headaches.
Releases restrictions in the fascia that can contribute to persistent pain—particularly in the neck, back, shoulders, hips, and jaw.
2. Improves Mobility and Flexibility
Frees up fascial tension to restore natural movement, making everyday tasks and physical activity easier and more comfortable.
3. Enhances Postural Alignment
Helps the body realign by addressing underlying patterns of imbalance and tension that affect posture.
4. Supports Injury Recovery
Facilitates healthy tissue repair and reduces the buildup of scar tissue, making it effective for rehabilitation and long-term healing.
5. Improves Breathing and Respiratory Function
Releases tension in the diaphragm, rib cage, and surrounding fascia to support fuller, more easeful breathing and enhanced oxygen flow.
6. Reduces Stress and Promotes Relaxation
Encourages deep relaxation by calming the nervous system, which can help reduce anxiety, improve sleep, and restore emotional balance.
7. Increases Body Awareness
Invites deeper connection to the body’s sensations, helping clients notice and shift patterns of tension or holding.
8. Aids Emotional Release
Since fascia can store emotional energy, release work may support the gentle processing and letting go of stored stress or trauma.
9. Complements Holistic Healing
Integrates well with other therapies and promotes the body’s natural healing intelligence—supporting wellbeing on physical, mental, and energetic levels.
